Amen. As we reflect on the events of May 18, 2025, our hearts are heavy with the devastation caused by the tornadoes that struck Missouri and surrounding states. These powerful storms have left a trail of destruction, claiming at least 27 lives across Kentucky, Missouri, and Virginia, with Missouri reporting seven fatalities .
In Missouri, the storms have been particularly severe. The Greater St. Louis area experienced an EF3 tornado that resulted in significant damage and loss of life . Other regions, such as Poplar Bluff, have also been affected, with homes destroyed and communities left in shock .
These tragedies serve as a stark reminder of the words from Matthew 24:8: “All of this is the beginning of sorrow.” Indeed, the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters, including tornadoes, floods, and other severe weather events, reflect the challenges we face in our world today. As we witness these events unfold, it is natural to seek solace and strength in our faith.
In times like these, we turn to prayer, asking for God’s comfort and guidance for those affected by these storms. We pray for the families who have lost loved ones, for the communities working tirelessly to rebuild, and for the first responders and volunteers offering their support. May they find strength and hope in the face of adversity.
Let us also pray for our leaders and emergency services, that they may be equipped with wisdom and resources to respond effectively to such disasters. May we all be reminded of the importance of compassion, unity, and faith as we navigate the challenges of our time.
In the midst of sorrow, we find hope. May God’s presence bring peace to those in need and inspire us all to act with kindness and love.
