We had such a special visitor at our adoption event yesterday — and it turned into a beautiful moment of education and support. A young girl and her dad showed up carrying the tiniest little kitten you’ve ever seen. They had found him after he was abandoned by a woman, and instead of walking away, they stepped in to save his life. They took the little nugget home, bought a bottle and formula, and even spent time researching how to properly care for a newborn kitten.
But like so many first-time rescuers, they still had questions and wanted to make sure they were doing everything right. That’s why they came to our event — and we are so glad they did. We were able to show them exactly how to care for such a tiny life. One of the most important things we did was give them a Miracle Nipple, because the nipples sold in most pet stores are far too big for neonatal kittens and can make feeding unsafe. We filled up the bottle for them and showed them how to feed him correctly — and little Della (that’s his name!) happily drank his fill.
We also showed them how to gently stimulate him so that he can go to the bathroom, which is absolutely critical for kittens at this stage. Poor Della must have been holding it in for a while, because he pooped up quite a storm — which actually was a really good sign that he’s healthy and everything is working as it should!
At just two and a half weeks old, he’s a sweet, bright-eyed, healthy little nugget who is very lucky to have landed with a family that cares so much. We made sure they know they can reach out to us anytime if they have questions or need more help. Best of all, they told us they plan on keeping Della and giving him a forever home.
We are so glad they stopped by our adoption event. It was such a great opportunity to help, educate, and support a family who is doing their very best for this tiny life. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do — to keep little ones like Della safe and to guide the people who love them.
